Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has been sworn in for a second term in office.

Akeredolu was sworn-in alongside his Deputy, Lucky Ayedatiwa after the oath of office was administered on them by the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Olarewaju Akeredolu.

Former Minister of Agriculture and President of the African Development Bank, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina has said that Nigeria’s restructuring should be driven by economic and financial viability.

7,000 Flee Western Ethiopia Over Violence – UN

At least 7,000 people have reportedly fled rapidly-escalating communal violence in western Ethiopia, seeking safety in neighboring Sudan, the United Nations disclosed on Tuesday.

The region has long been devastated by competition over land and resources, and the UN said many people arriving in Sudan are seeking food, water, and health care.

The displacement is not related to the unrest in Ethiopia’s northern Tigray region, which has pushed more than 61,000 to flee also into Sudan in recent months.

At Least 60 Inmates Killed In Ecuador Prison Riots

No fewer than 60 inmates were left dead and several others injured on Tuesday following riots at three jails in Ecuador prisons authorities reported as the nation battles severe prison overcrowding and frequent violence between rival gangs who are serving jail terms.

The national police said on Twitter the death toll stood at ‘more than 50‘ prisoners after unrest at facilities in the provinces of Guayas, Azuay, and Cotopaxi.

Ecuador’s President Lenin Moreno, also on Twitter, attributed the riots to “criminal organizations” engaged in ‘simultaneous acts of violence in several prisons.’

Niger Delta Militants Threaten To Attack Abuja And Lagos

A  group of Niger Delta militants that calls themselves Supreme Egbesu Liberation Fighters, has threatened to destroy critical infrastructure in Lagos and Abuja.

In a short video posted on Tuesday by Africa Independent Television (AIT), the group accused the federal government of marginalizing the region and also reneging on its promise to deliver on the amnesty programme.

A masked member of the group while reading from a written statement in the video said, after accepting the amnesty pact, ’till date, there are no schools, no potable water, no light, no hospital and access roads for our people to enjoy’.
