Yoruba Man’s Cows Strayed Into Soyinka’s House – MURIC

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has said that the owner of the cows that strayed into Prof. Wole Soyinka’s house was a Yoruba man.

The group said this while suggesting to the Federal Government to ensure that cow owners in the country are registered in order to hold them accountable.

In a statement signed by its director, Prof Ishaq Akintola on Thursday, MURIC argued that cattle owners should register their businesses in the same way other businesses are registered.

Kogi: Gov. Bello Appoints New Head Of Service

Governor Yahaya Bello has appointed Mrs. Hannah Onyinoyi Odiyo as the new Head of Civil Service of Kogi State.

Mrs Odiyo takes over from Mrs Deborah Ogunmola.

Until her appointment, Mrs. Odiyo was the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Kogi State.

Her appointment was confirmed in a statement issued to journalists in Lokoja on Thursday, by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Folashade Arike Ayoade.

Ondo: 200 Cows Seized, Two Herders Arrested For Crops Damage

Ondo State Security Network known as Amotekun Corps has arrested Two herdsmen for using their cows to destroy crops at Irese, Ifedore Local Government Area of the state.

Also, 200 cows that destroyed the crops were arrested and taken to the headquarters of the Amotekun Corps in Akure.

The two herders – Muhammed Abu and Musa Saliu-  said they came into Ondo from Ilorin,  Kwara State.

It was gathered that a farmer in the community alerted the Amotekun Corps after the herders allegedly attempted to shoot another farmer for asking them to leave his farm.

Customs Impounds 1,930 Bags Of Rice At Warehouses

The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Strike Force on Wednesday disclosed that the CGC has directed the unit to invade warehouses and markets across the South-West for smuggled foreign rice and contraband smuggled into the country.

Speaking against the backdrop of the seizure of 1,930 bags of 50kg smuggled rice evacuated from various warehouses in Lagos and Ogun states, the co-ordinator, CGC’s Strike Force, Zone A, Lagos, Deputy Compt. Ahmadu Bello Shuaibu, said the directive was to boost the local production of rice in the country.

The US Geological Survey on Thursday disclosed that a  7.7-magnitude earthquake struck in the South Pacific, sparking a tsunami warning for New Zealand, New Caledonia, Vanuatu and other nations in the region.

The quake struck at just after midnight on Thursday local time (1320 GMT Wednesday) about 415 kilometres (258 miles) east of Vao in New Caledonia at a depth of 10 kilometres, according to the USGS.

‘Hazardous tsunami waves from this earthquake are possible within the next three hours,‘ the NWS Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.
