Fresh Abductions: I’ll Visit Kagara To See Bandits – Gumi

Kaduna-based Islamic scholar, Sheik Ahmad Gumi, who recently visited Bandits in Zamfara, has promised to visit Kagara, the Niger community, where some persons were abducted on Wednesday morning to dialogue with the bandits.

Africa Daily News has earlier reported that Some students and staff of Government Science Secondary School, Kagara, headquarters of Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, were abducted in the early hours of Wednesday.

Speaking after paying a visit to the Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, Gumi described the incident as unfortunate.

Niger Gov, Bello Shuts Down Schools As Bandits Kidnap Students

Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, has ordered the immediate closure of all boarding schools in Rafi, Munya, Shiroro and Mariga Local Government Areas of the State.

Bello took the decision following the abduction of some students of the Government Science College (GSC) Kagara, in Niger State.

It was gathered that gunmen stormed the school in military uniform and kidnapped the students on Wednesday morning.

Security agencies have been able to detect the coordinates and nature of the area.

FG To Register Another 20 Million Poor Nigerians – Farouq

Sadiya Umar Farouq, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, says the Federal Government is set to make the National Social Register (NSR) more interactive.

The NSR is a database of poor and vulnerable households in Nigeria

On Tuesday, Farouq said the government would establish further collaborations among relevant stakeholders on poverty reduction, social protection and humanitarian interventions.

She said as of January 31, out of the estimated 82.9 million (40.2 per cent) Nigerians living below the poverty line, government has identified and registered 26.8 million poor and vulnerable individuals.

5G Phones May Interfere With Aircraft – French Regulator

5G, which is the latest generation of smartphones network technology, can interfere with aircraft altitude instruments, the French Civil Aviation Authority warned Tuesday as it recommended they should be turned off during flight.

A spokesman for the agency spoke to correspondents yesterday said; ‘The utilization of 5G devices onboard aircraft could lead to risks of interference that could potentially result in errors in altitude readings,’

According to him, potential phenomenon is due to ‘signal interference from a close frequency source of a strength that is similar or even superior to that of altimeters.’
