Werner Finally Scores As Chelsea Revival Gathers Pace

It was a happy night for german star Timo Werner as he ended his Premier League goal drought as the Chelsea forward sealed a 2-0 win against Newcastle that lifted the Blues into fourth place on Monday.

Werner netted late in the first half at Stamford Bridge after setting up Olivier Giroud’s opener for Thomas Tuchel’s revitalized team that has continued to show great signs.

MTN Donates 1.4M COVID-19 Vaccines To Nigeria

Nigeria’s Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 on Monday disclosed that the country is set to take delivery of 1.4 million doses of vaccines which were paid for by MTN.

The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, disclosed this to newsmen when he was speaking at the national briefing on COVID-19 in Abuja. According to him,  the first part of the 1.4 million doses would be delivered by end of February, while the remaining would be delivered by end of March  2021.

SEC, CBN Moves To Regulate Crypto, Other Digital Assets

Nigeria’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has disclosed that it has reached an agreement with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to develop an appropriate regulatory framework for digital assets in line with the mandates of the two institutions.

This agreement coincides with the aftermath of the recent controversies around the CBN’s ban on cryptocurrency bank accounts.

SEC stated that while the Commission has a key mandate of investor protection the apex bank also has a core mandate of maintaining financial system stability, two common mandates that require collaborative efforts by the institutions.

By 2025, Gas Flaring Would Have Stopped In Nigeria – Sylva

The Minister of State for Petroleum, Mr. Timipre Sylva, on Monday, declared that Nigeria will not be left out as the global community works towards achieving a complete elimination of gas flaring by 2025.

The minister stated this at a public hearing on ‘Need to End Gas Flaring in Nigeria and Harness Associated Gas in Nigeria’ which was organized by the House of Representatives Joint Committee on Gas Resources, Environment, and Climate Change.

This is coming at a time the house of Reps is saying that Nigeria loses over $750 million in revenue from flared gas annually.

Zimbabwe Takes Delivery Of COVID-19 Vaccine From China

Zimbabwe on Monday. received its first batch of COVID-19 vaccine from China. Reports say the vaccines landed at Robert Mugabe International Airport.

About 200,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccines from the Asian Giants were received by the country’s Vice President, Constantino Chiwenga, who also doubles as the health minister and Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Guo Shaochun.

The first batch of the vaccine would be used on frontline health workers firstly and excesses would be extended to vulnerable classes in the society such as the elderly and those with underlying medical conditions according to the country’s vaccine deployment strategy.

Fidelity Bank Records Success In ₦41.21B Bond Issuance

Nigerian Banking heavyweight, Fidelity Bank Plc says it has successfully issued 10-year ₦41.21bn in fixed-rate unsecured subordinated bond at an 8.5 percent coupon rate due in 2031.

This was made known in a statement on Sunday titled ‘Fidelity Bank Plc successfully issued the largest ticket Tier II local bonds in Nigeria’.

The bank stated, ‘The bond issuance, which was fully subscribed, given that total investor interest and commitments in the bonds were ₦56.6bn, adds to the impressive portfolio of landmark transactions structured by the bank, and underscores its capacity to successfully execute debt capital market transactions.
