We Have Disbursed ₦2tr To Mitigate COVID-19 Impact – FG

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, on Tuesday disclosed that the synchronized efforts by the monetary and fiscal authorities to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic have led to the disbursement of ₦2. trillion as of January this year. 

Emefiele made the disclosure at the end of the first Monetary Policy Committee meeting of this year.

He revealed that N192.64 billion has been disbursed to 426,016 beneficiaries of the COVID-19 Targeted Credit Facility (TCF) meant for household and small businesses.

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), to collaborate with Dynali Company, a Belgian Helicopter Manufacturing Company, for the local production of helicopters.
The President gave the directive at a meeting with the Board of NASENI at the State House, Abuja, on Tuesday.

Buhari also approved the National Tractor Refurbishment and Recovery Programme, to cater for the repairs and repositioning of more than 55,000 tractors across the country,

He directed the NASENI to work towards bridging the gaps in research and technology that keeps Nigeria waiting on other countries for supplies and solutions,

No fewer than 70 lockup shops have been destroyed by an ugly fire outbreak that occurred in Alade Market in Somolu. This was according to the Director-General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.

Nigeria has emerged as the second preferred investment destination in Africa, only second to Egypt, after attracting $2.6 billion Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in 2020, this is according to data obtained from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

UNCTAD, in its 11-page ‘Investment Trends Monitor,’ which focused on global FDI flows, however, stated that inflows to Nigeria in 2020 declined to $2.6 billion, lower than the $3.3 billion the country recorded in 2019.

Britain’s unemployment rate hit 5.0 percent at the end of 2020, the highest level for more than four-and-a-half years, as coronavirus lockdowns destroyed jobs, official data showed Tuesday.

The rate for the three months to the end of November compares with 4.9 percent in the quarter to October, the Office for National Statistics said in a statement.
