Nigeria’s Debt Stock Rises To ₦32.22trn ― NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, says Nigeria’s total foreign and domestic debt stood at ₦32.22trn in the Q3 of 2020. The bureau in its Nigerian Domestic and Foreign Debt for Q3 2020 published on its website said Nigerian States and Federal Debt Stock data as of 30th September 2020 reflected that the country’s total public debt portfolio stood at ₦32.22trn in the Q3 of 2020.

Biden Announces $1.9trn Emergency Package To Battle COVID-19

Incoming US President, Joe Biden on Thursday announced a $1.9 trillion emergency package to combat the coronavirus pandemic and boost economic recovery.

The president-elect has asked Congress to approve the package.

The package will provide for $1,400-per-person checks for millions of Americans, enhanced unemployment benefits, $25 billion in rental assistance, and an extension of a federal eviction moratorium until the end of January.

Included also in the plan is $130 billion to reopen schools for in-person learning and $20 billion for a national vaccination programme.

The World Health Organization’s emergency committee met, two weeks ahead of schedule, on Thursday to discuss the urgent threat from rapidly-spreading new coronavirus variants.

Newly identified mutations of the virus, which experts believe to be significantly more infectious, come as spiking case numbers force many countries to enforce new restrictions and lockdowns.

No fewer than 96 companies from Nigeria and overseas have indicated interest in undertaking the rehabilitation of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s (NNPC) downstream infrastructure.
