Kidnappers Of 333 Students Must Face Justice – US To FG

The United States (U.S.) on Thursday told the Nigerian government to hold those responsible for the abduction of hundreds of children from Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State, accountable.

The US noted that the kidnappers must be allowed to face the full wrath of the law.

The U.S. Department of State condemned the abduction in a statement issued by a spokesperson, Cale Brown after the release of the students on Thursday.

Obasanjo stated this on Thursday, during a condolence visit to the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, over the death of his mother, Abigail.

He called for a stronger synergy between the federal government and the citizens in addressing the issues affecting the country.

Nigeria Senate Confirms New Appointments For HYPADEC

The Nigeria Senate has confirmed the appointment of eight persons into the Governing Council of the Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPADEC). The lawmakers gave a nod on the appointment of the eight persons as chairman, managing director, and members during Thursday’s plenary at the upper chamber of the National Assembly in Abuja.

Their confirmation followed the consideration of the report of the Committee on Power on the confirmation of the nominations for appointment as requested by President Muhammadu Buhari, presented by Senator Gabriel Suwam.

IG Adamu Promotes 4,134 Traffic Warden Officers

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has promoted 4,134 traffic warden officers to their next ranks.

Mr Frank Mba, the Force Public Relations Officer, made this known in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.
According to the statement, the promotion included 65 officers who were elevated to the rank of a Deputy Superintendent of Traffic, 245 officers to Assistant Superintendent of Traffic II, 138 officers elevated to Senior Traffic Warden, as well as 3,683 personnel promoted to Grade I and three personnel from Grade III to Grade II.

The end of nine month long strike action embarked upon by the members of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) may be around the corner as the representatives of the union and the federal government on Thursday met again in Abuja to continue talks over the strike embarked upon by the academics.

The ASUU strike which started in may has paralysed academics activities in government universities in the whole of Nigeria. The academics are seeking an overhaul of their salary structure and increased funding for universities, among other demands.
