Buhari Agrees With Restructuring – Gov el-Rufai

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari is not opposed to state police and true federalism.

El-Rufai, who was the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Committee on True Federalism, which submitted its report in 2018, said Buhari is not opposed to restructuring.

The Governor said that it was the National Assembly that has failed to act on the recommendations to make the laws.

Lawan, Abaribe Trade Words Over Conduct Of 2019 Polls

Senate President, Ahmad Lawan and Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe, yesterday, traded tackles over the authenticity of votes from the North East during the conduct of the 2019 presidential election.

The duo clashed when the Senate confirmed Professor Mahmood Yakubu as chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for a second term.

Abaribe, had while making a case for a strong electoral system, questioned how INEC conducted elections in the North East in 2019 with huge turnout of voters and electoral victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) despite the ongoing insurgency war.

President Muhammadu Buhari has warned that the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) must not abuse the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Agreement.

The trade deal commences January 1, 2021.

Buhari spoke at the 13th Extra-Ordinary Summit of the African Union Assembly of Heads of State and Government held virtually on Saturday.

Represented by Foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama, Buhari expressed excitement about the start of the agreement.

India Fails To Reach Agreement With Farmers

India’s government on Saturday failed to break a deadlock with farmers who are protesting over new agricultural reforms and will meet again on Wednesday to continue talk to end the weeklong protest, the agriculture minister and union leaders said.

Thousands of Indian farmers are demonstrating against the laws, which they say threaten their livelihoods, by camping on the outskirts of the capital New Delhi and blocking highways.

According to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, the new laws are meant to overhaul antiquated procurement procedures and give growers more options to sell their produce.

The United Nation chief, Antonio Guterres and a group of 36 cross-party UK parliamentarians have come out in support of the agitating Indian farmers, saying people have a right to demonstrate peacefully and authorities should let them do so.
