Police Withdraws Lawsuit Filed To Stop Judicial Panels

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has applied to withdraw its lawsuit filed to stop judicial panels probing allegations of brutality by its officials particularly operatives of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.

The suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/1492/2020 was filed on November 9, 2020, by the NPF, through its lawyer, O. M. Atoyebi (SAN), asking the Federal High Court in Abuja to stop the judicial proceedings.

However, the NPF filed a notice of discontinuance on Friday by a lawyer to the NPF, Festus Ibude.

The Federal and Lagos State governments have said about 795 houses would be demolished, to pave way for the construction of the proposed 37-kilometre Fourth Mainland Bridge.

Philippine Town Mayor, Caesar Perez Shot Dead

Caesar Perez, a Philippine mayor with alleged links to illegal drugs has been murdered.

Perez, 66, was the mayor of Los Banos in Laguna province, south of Manila.

A police spokesman, Chitadel Gaoiran, said he was shot dead Thursday night by a gunman.

The official had just arrived at a town hall when he was shot twice in the head.

Perez was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead, Dpa reports.

Arik Air on Friday announced the retrenchment of 300 workers.

The airline said the action was due to the adverse effect of coronavirus.

The statement on the sack was titled, ‘Arik Air management declares 300 staff redundant’.
