Ex-French President, Giscard d’Estaing Dies Of COVID-19

Former French president Valery Giscard d’Estaing is dead.

He died at the age of 94 at his home in the central French department of Loir-et-Cher on Wednesday from complications linked to COVID-19.

Giscard d’Estaing was President of France at the age of 48 from 1974 until 1981.

He lost the 1981 presidential election to Socialist Francois Mitterrand.

The deceased led France into the modern era and was a key architect of European integration in the early 1970s.

Kogi Govt Fumes As Dangote Staff Attack Tax Officials

Officials of the Kogi State Internal Revenue have been allegedly attacked by Staff of Dangote Cement Factory in Obajana while trying to effect a court order against the cement company over tax default.

The Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo disclosed this in statement issued to newsmen on Wednesday night.

Fanwo in the statement said the Kogi State Government recently secured a court order against the Cement Factory over issues of tax evasion.

Justice A. M. Liman of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, has ordered the final forfeiture of ₦235,451,969 traced to the account of a convicted fraudster, Obinwanne Okeke, to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Wilson Uwujaren, announced this in a statement on Thursday.

Okeke, the Chief Executive Officer of Invictus Group, pleaded guilty to two charges: computer fraud and wire fraud.Africa Daily News, New York reported his arrest in August 2019 by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, has hinted that insurgency and terrorism may continue in Nigeria for another 20 years.

Buratai made the remark on his verified Facebook handle few days after Boko Haram massacred rice farmers in Borno State.

Boko Haram had beheaded about 110 rice farmers in Zabarmari, Jere Local Government Area of Borno State.

However, Buratai noted that Nigerians generally misunderstand what insurgency and terrorism mean.
