The United Nations on Monday urged Ethiopia to ensure the protection of civilians, a day after Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed gave Tigrayan forces 72 hours to surrender before a military offensive on the regional capital of Mekelle.

Ethiopian Ahmed Gives Tigrayan Forces 72 Hours To Surrender

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has given Tigrayan regional forces 72 hours to surrender before the military begins an offensive on the regional capital of Mekelle.

Abiy took to his twitter account urging the TPLF to surrender saying ‘We urge you to surrender peacefully within 72 hours, recognizing that you are at the point of no return.’

There is no response from Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), which is refusing to surrender its rule of the northern region, and who has also said its forces were digging trenches and standing firm.

IG Promotes 16 Officers Killed In EndSARS Riots, 82,763 Others

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has approved the promotion of 82,779 junior officers to the next ranks.

The list comprises 56,779 Sergeants to Inspector, 17,569 Corporal to Sergeants, and 8,431 Constables to Corporal.

Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba, made the announcement on Monday.

The spokesman said the promotion was part of ongoing efforts at boosting the morale of the workforce and for greater efficiency.

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, on Monday rejigged his cabinet following the removal of Adekola Olawoye, SAN, as the Commissioner of Justice and Attorney-General of the State.

Following the removal of Olawoye, the governor replaced him with Charles Titiloye, as the new Attorney General of the State.

Strike Looms As Labour Walks Out From Meeting With FG

Labour union representatives yesterday staged a walk-out from a meeting with the Nigerian Government.

The labour union walked out of the meeting barely five minutes after it started.

The president of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, Quadri Olaleye, told Channels Television that the hike in the price of fuel and electricity tariffs were top on the meeting agenda and not issues of palliatives.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Chief Sunny Onuesoke has described as embarrassing Federal Government’s plan to import petroleum products from Niger Republic.

Onuesoke, a former Delta State gubernatorial aspirant said that the pronouncement sounded unbelievable to him because Nigeria has four refineries while Niger Republic has only one.
