Dangote Refinery, Others Threaten Existing Plants – OPEC

New refining capacities expected to come on stream in Nigeria and other African countries in the next few years may increase pressure on existing plants on the continent, the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has said.

OPEC, in its newly released 2020 World Oil Outlook, estimated refining capacity additions between 2020 and 2025 at around 5.2 million barrels per day based on the review of announced and planned refinery projects.

Proceed from Value Added Tax will be used to subsidise electricity tariff, according to agreement reached between the Federal Government and Labour.

SARS: Presidential Panel Approves 5-Point Demand From Protesters

The Presidency has said the Presidential Panel on the Reform of the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) has approved the five-point demand from Nigerians, who have been protesting across the country since last week.

This was contained in a statement on Tuesday and signed by President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Adviser of Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.

According to him, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, convened a meeting with stakeholders, where he agreed to meet demands, which include halting use of force against protesters and unconditional release of arrested citizens.

The Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa has issued an order to the police command to desist from brutalizing peaceful protesters in the State.

The Governor made this known in a tweet via his Twitter account on Tuesday while reacting to the ongoing nationwide protest against police brutality.

The Governor said “Peaceful protests are a necessary part of the democratic process and the citizens have the right to express their grievances.”

Youths clamouring for a total ban of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) have stormed major roads in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

One of the notable and front line senators that fought former president, Olusegun Obasanjo’s third term agenda, senator Yushua Anka is dead.

According to a press statement by one of the senator’s relations, Alhaji Ibrahim Anka, the senator died in Abuja after a protracted ailment.

Senator Anka was an inlaw to former governor of Zamfara State, Senator Ahmed Sani Yarima who also took over senator Yushua Anka’s seat in the senate and represented Zamfara West senatorial zone between 2007- 2019.

5 Candidates Drag Obaseki To Election Tribunal

Five political parties and their candidates have dragged Godwin Obaseki, the re-elected governor of Edo state to the Election Tribunal, challenging his declaration as the winner of the 19 September poll.

But for now, the bailiff has not been able to personally serve Obaseki with the petitions.

The Secretary of the tribunal, Mr Sunday Martins, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin on Monday.

Martin’s said that the 21-day window period for the submission of petitions ended on Saturday.

He said that the governor ‘must be served personally because it is an originating process.’
