Arik Air Announces Plans To Resume Operations

The management of Arik Air has announced the resumption of flight operations in and out of Lagos from October 24.

This is following the easing of the curfew imposed by the Lagos State Government.

Arik had on Oct. 20 announced the cancellation of all flights across the country after the Lagos State government imposed a 24 hours curfew on the state.

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that it is unfortunate that the initial genuine and well-intended protest of youths in parts of the country against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) was hijacked and misdirected.

President Buhari said this during his meeting with former Heads of State and Presidents of Nigeria, Friday in Abuja.

President Buhari’s Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said that President Buhari, during the meeting, reiterated that his government will not fold its arms and allow miscreants and criminals continue to perpetrate acts of hooliganism in the country.

Governor Sanwo-Olu Eases Curfew In Lagos State

Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Ou on Friday announced the ease of the curfew in the state.

Sanwo-Olu said the 24-hour curfew will be eased on Saturday but movement would only be allowed between 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.

A prominent Algerian businesswoman, allegedly an illegitimate child of ousted president Abdelaziz Bouteflika, was sentenced Wednesday to 12 years in prison after being convicted of corruption.

An Algiers court also fined her six million dinars ($47,000) and ordered the confiscation of her properties, the official news agency APS said.

It said Zoulikha Nachinache, widely known as Madame Maya, was found guilty of money laundering, influence peddling, squandering public funds and illicit transfer of foreign currency abroad.

The death toll in the collapse of a three-story church building in eastern Ghana rose to 21, rescue officials said on Friday, as more bodies were pulled from the rubble.

‘The deceased include 12 women and nine men,’ the National Disaster Management Organisation said in a statement, upping the toll from 17 dead on Thursday.

Gov Emmanuel Extends Curfew As Protest Turns Violent

Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has extended the curfew imposed on the state to 7am tomorrow (Saturday) to ensure full return to normalcy.

Emmanuel announced the extension in a statement issued on Friday in Uyo by the state Commissioner for Information, Mr Ini Ememobong, and made available to newsmen.

Recall that the curfew declared earlier by the governor was to elapse by midday Friday.

The governor said the extension followed the unlawful activities of the End SARS protesters, which led to the disruption of economic activities in the state.

The Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria has condemned widespread violence in the country.

It noted that some Christian leaders made inciting utterances instead of cautioning their followers.
