Buhari Names Lauretta Onochie, Others As INEC Commissioner

President Muhammadu Buhari has sought Senate’s confirmation of Commissioners of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, reads a letter containing the names at plenary on Tuesday.

Those to be confirmed are Prof. Muhaamad Sani from Katsina State, Lauretta Onochie from Delta State, Kunle Cornelius Ajayi from Ekiti State and Seidu Ahmad from Jigawa State.

Lauretta Onochie is Buhari’s Special Assistant on social media.

Anka, Senator Who Foiled Obasanjo’s Third Term Agenda Is Dead

One of the notable and front line senators that fought former president, Olusegun Obasanjo’s third term agenda, senator Yushua Anka is dead.

According to a press statement by one of the senator’s relations, Alhaji Ibrahim Anka, the senator died in Abuja after a protracted ailment.

Senator Anka was an inlaw to former governor of Zamfara State, Senator Ahmed Sani Yarima who also took over senator Yushua Anka’s seat in the senate and represented Zamfara West senatorial zone between 2007- 2019.

5 Candidates Drag Obaseki To Election Tribunal

Five political parties and their candidates have dragged Godwin Obaseki, the re-elected governor of Edo state to the Election Tribunal, challenging his declaration as the winner of the 19 September poll.

But for now, the bailiff has not been able to personally serve Obaseki with the petitions.

The Secretary of the tribunal, Mr Sunday Martins, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin on Monday.

Martin’s said that the 21-day window period for the submission of petitions ended on Saturday.

He said that the governor ‘must be served personally because it is an originating process.’

Governor Nyesom Wike has banned all forms of protests in Rivers State.

The governor specifically said all proposed protests by #EndSARS campaigners have been prohibited.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, says its nationwide strike continues despite meeting with Senate President on Monday.

Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, on Monday, swore in two new cabinet Commissioners, three non-Executive Commissioners of the state Local Government Service Commission, and 25 Special Advisers.
