Twitter said Friday it will take down calls for violence starting after polls close on US election day and slap warnings on premature victory claims to fight efforts to undermine the election.

When it comes to a winner in any race, Twitter will require an announcement by an election official or a public projection from at least two authoritative, national news outlets making independent election calls.

Britain’s unemployment rate has jumped to 4.5 percent as the coronavirus pandemic continues to destroy jobs, official data showed on Tuesday.

The reading for the June-August period compared with an unemployment rate of 4.1 percent for May to July, the Office for National Statistic said in a statement.

Early estimates for September meanwhile “suggest that there is little change in the number of payroll employees in the UK; up 20,000 compared with August”, the ONS said.

Since the start of the UK pandemic in March, the number of payroll employees has dived by a net 673,000, the data showed.

Boko Haram insurgents have killed 14 farmers in Borno State, by slashing their throats.

Members of the Civilian JTF told AFP that insurgents on Monday seized 15 farmers working on their irrigation fields in Ngwom village, 14 kilometers north of Maiduguri, and cut their throats.

‘They slaughtered the farmers, killing 14 while one survived with a deep slash. They left him for dead,’ Babakura Kilo, a leader of the Civilian JTF, said.

Nigeria’s head of police Mohammad Adamu has established a new Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) squad to ‘fill the gaps’ left by the notorious police unit Federal Special Anti-robbery squad (FSARS).

Twelve Malian soldiers were killed in attacks on their base in the volatile center of the country, the army said Tuesday, in the latest violence to hit the West African state. In a statement, Mali’s military said an army outpost in the central Mopti region was attacked overnight, leaving nine soldiers dead and an unidentified number of wounded.

The Presidency has said the Presidential Panel on the Reform of the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) has approved the five-point demand from Nigerians, who have been protesting across the country since last week.

This was contained in a statement on Tuesday and signed by President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Adviser of Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.
