President Donald Trump should be able to resume “public engagements” from Saturday, the White House physician announced Thursday, saying the US leader has responded “extremely well” to Covid-19 treatment.

“Saturday will be day 10 since Thursday’s diagnosis, and based on the trajectory of advanced diagnostics the team has been conducting, I fully anticipate the President’s safe return to public engagements at that time,” Trump’s doctor Sean Conley said in a statement.

World Food Programme Wins Nobel Peace Prize

The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to the World Food Programme on Friday for feeding millions of people from Yemen to North Korea, with the coronavirus pandemic pushing millions more into hunger.

The WFP was “a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict”, Nobel committee chairwoman Berit Reiss-Andersen said on unveiling the winner in Oslo.

Algeria Expels Thousands Of Migrants To Niger: HRW

Algerian security forces have arrested thousands of migrants and asylum seekers, cramming them onto trucks and buses before expelling them across the border in Niger, Human Rights Watch said Friday.

“Algeria is entitled to protect its borders, but not to arbitrarily detain and collectively expel migrants, including children and asylum seekers, without a trace of due process,” HRW said.

Over 3,400 migrants have been expelled in the past month, HRW said in a statement issued in Beirut.

Alpha Beta Consulting LLP  has accused its former Managing Director, Dapo Apara of allegedly diverting ₦6 billion belonging to the company for personal use.

It also exonerated the National leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of any wrong doing or fraud levelled against him by Apara.

Apara, had alleged that Alpha Beta got over ₦150 billion as 10 per cent commission for “computing, tracking and reconciling” Lagos State’s Internally Generated Revenue since 2000.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has alerted Nigerians on fraudulent loan offers and investment schemes.

It cited information and videos circulating on social media.

The messages had asked loan seekers and small-scale business owners to apply for funds.

But in a statement, CBN said while it has several development finance intervention programmes for different categories of businesses, it does not directly interact with prospective applicants.

The apex bank explained that its interventions are only disbursed through participating financial institutions (PFIs) such as deposit money banks (DMBs), development finance institutions (DFIs) and microfinance banks (MFBs).
