Blackout Looms In Nigeria As Kainji Dam Bursts

Some Nigerian states may soon experience blackouts following a sudden burst at the Kainji Hydroelectric Dam in Kainji.

The embankments of Kainji dam, one of Nigeria’s hydro-power stations caved in after the opening of the four spillway gates to free surplus water caused by heavy rains.

On Sunday, the management, Mainstream Energy Solution Limited, opened the points but discovered that the dam was impounding more water than it should.

Gunmen Kill 2 FRSC Officers, Kidnap 10 In Nasarawa

Two Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, officers died after bandits attacked the vehicle they were travelling at Udege junction, along Mararaban-Udege highway, Nasarawa State at about 8 am on Monday morning, Bisi Kazeem, the FRSC Corps Public Education Officer has said in a statement.

He added that the gunmen also kidnapped 10 officers, while four others were injured in the attack.

Giving further information on the incident, Kazeem said one of the officers died during the attack, while the second officer died in the hospital.

Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HOCSF), made this known in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, by Mrs Olawunmi Ogunmosunle, Director Information, office of the HOCSF.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi visited the scene of Monday’s accident involving a train and two vehicles at the PWD area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

A train collided with two vehicles on Monday morning, with one person killed and seven others injured.

However, Sanwo-Olu and Amaechi arrived at the scene of the accident on Monday evening to get on the spot assessment of the incident.

2020 WASSCE: WAEC Reveals When Results Will Be Released

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has said it will release the results of the just-concluded West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) within 45 days after the exam has ended.

The examination ended on Saturday nationwide and in other four West African member countries of WAEC – Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Gambia.

A total of 1,459,463 students sat for the exams in Nigeria.

The head of public affairs of WAEC Nigeria, Demianus Ojijeogu, on Sunday told newsmen that the results will be available soon.
