Pompeo Urges Greece, Turkey To Resolve Territorial Dispute

The United States welcomed on Monday Greece’s willingness to look for a solution to a territorial dispute with Turkey, after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo held talks with Greek officials.

Rival claims to potentially resource-rich territory under the Mediterranean should be resolved “peacefully in accordance with international law”, said Pompeo and Greek counterpart Nikos Dendias in a joint statement after holding talks in Thessaloniki.

The two NATO members have spent weeks at loggerheads after Ankara sent exploration vessels into disputed waters, roping in other European powers and raising concern about a wider escalation.

Thousands of people were forced to flee their homes in California’s Napa Valley Monday as wildfires ripped through the region’s world-famous wine country.

Katanga Rebels Stage Incursion Into DR Congo Mining Centre

Separatist rebels staged an incursion into the Democratic Republic of Congo’s major mining town of Lubumbashi during the night leaving two policemen and a soldier dead, officials said Saturday.

“The toll is 16 attackers neutralised, several wounded and captured,” provincial interior minister Philbert Kunda Milundu announced.

“Two policemen were decapitated and one soldier shot dead,” he told reporters, adding that no civilians had been hurt.

“Bakata Katanga insurgents entered the town from 1am,” (2300 GMT Friday) firing live bullets, the minister had earlier told AFP.

“They managed to reach the town centre,” he added.

Kano: Hisbah Arrests 15 Teenagers Over Immoral Acts

The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested 15 teenagers over alleged involvement in immoral acts in Kano City.

The Public Relations Officer of the board, Mallam Lawal Ibrahim, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Kano.

Ibrahim said the suspects were apprehended on Sept. 20, around midnight at a club known in Nassarawa Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
