EU Calls For ‘Immediate Return To Negotiations’ Over Karabakh

The European Union called Sunday for a halt to fighting between Armenian and Azerbaijani separatists over the Nagorny Karabakh region and an ‘immediate return to negotiations.’

The worst clashes since 2016 broke out on Sunday between arch-foes Azerbaijan and Armenia, which have been locked for decades in a territorial dispute over the Armenia-backed breakaway region.

‘Military action must stop, as a matter of urgency, to prevent a further escalation,’ European Council president Charles Michel tweeted, calling for ‘an immediate return to negotiations, without preconditions.’

Gbajabiamila Offers NLC Palliatives To Avert Strike

To avert the strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) billed to commence on Monday, the House of Representatives has offered organised labour some palliatives.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, at a negotiation meeting with labour on Sunday in Abuja said the palliatives would be included in the proposed 2021 budget.

Gbajabiamila said that the budget would soon be presented to the National Assembly, stressing that some palliatives were being considered to cushion the effects of increase in electricity tariff and fuel price hike.

Bundesliga team Schalke 04 have sacked their manager David Wagner with immediate effect.

The club confirmed the sack on Sunday, after just two games of the new season.

His assistants Buhler and Frohling have also been placed on leave.

Kebbi State Governor Abubakar Bagudu on Sunday commended President Muhammadu Buhari’s policies, stating that they have begun to yield the desired results in the country.

The Defence Headquarters, on Saturday, said the troops of Operation Whirl Stroke and 117 Guards Battalion eliminated four armed bandits and kidnappers.

The Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Abuja.

Enenche said the troops while on joint clearance operation on Friday, around Mararaba Udege in Nasarawa State, raided a suspected kidnappers’ camp along Bakonu road in Nasarawa Local Government Area.
