England Women Paid Equal Match Fees As Male Counterparts

The Football Association in England has dismissed the insinuations of institutionalised gender discrimination among its men and women soccer teams.

The FA announced on Thursday that the England men’s and women’s senior players have been paid the same match fee for representing their country since January 2020 – although tournament prize money still vastly differs.

In recent times, there have been controversies over pay equity and working conditions among male and female soccer teams.

In March 2019, the US women’s team, the current world champions, sued their federation alleging discrimination over pay and conditions.

The former deputy chairman of Rwanda’s ruling party during the 1994 genocide has died in a Senegalese prison, where he was serving a life sentence for his role in the slaughter, a court official told AFP Wednesday.

Edouard Karemera, the deputy of Rwanda’s then-ruling National Revolutionary Movement for Development, was jailed by a UN-backed special tribunal in 2011 for genocide and crimes against humanity.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has said that successful applicants for the 774,000 jobs under the Special Public Works Programme, will be paid using their Bank Verification Numbers (BVN).

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, has reiterated that the Federal Government is no longer fixing the pump price of petroleum products in the country.

Sylva made this known while briefing newsmen today on the increase in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol.

The Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC) had on Wednesday announced a new Ex-depot price of N151.56 for petrol.

US Election: Trump Tells North Carolina Voters To Vote Twice

US President Donald Trump has told people in the state of North Carolina to vote twice in November’s election, despite this being illegal.

Mr Trump suggested voters send a postal vote and then vote in person in order to test the system.

The president has frequently made false claims that postal votes are vulnerable to significant electoral fraud.

“Let them send it in and let them go vote,” he told North Carolina broadcaster WECT-TV on Wednesday.

“And if the system is as good as they say it is then obviously they won’t be able to vote (in person).”

The Federal Government has released the list of international airlines denied approval to operate in Nigeria as international flights resume on Saturday.

The international airlines denied flying approval, according to the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, include Air France, KLM, Etihad, Rwandair, Lufthansa, TAAG Angola Airlines and others.

Some airlines were however denied approval because international flights were yet to resume in their countries.

Guinean President Alpha Conde on Thursday filed his nomination papers for a controversial third term in elections next month, despite outrage and widespread protests in which dozens were killed.
