Buhari Moves To End Arbitrary Billing For Electricity

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the commencement of a nationwide mass-metering programme as part efforts to put an end to estimated and arbitrary billing for electricity.

Prof. James Momoh, Chairman, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, said the president’s directive was in response to yearnings of Nigerians.

According to him, the president also approved a waiver of the import levy on meters, so that those that do not have meters can be supplied as early as possible at reasonable costs.

Covid-19: Kwara Discharges Five Patients, Confirms New Cases

The Kwara State government, on Wednesday, discharged five Covid-19 patients, just as four new cases were confirmed.

This was announced in an update released by the State Covid-19 technical committee in Ilorin.

It said the number of confirmed cases has risen to 940, while active cases stands at 170.

Though the death toll remains 25, the total number of discharged patients is now 745.

The update put the total number of tests done so far at 4978, with 3877 returned as negative, while 161 tests are being awaited.

Pope Francis will resume limited public weekly audiences early next month, the Vatican announced Wednesday, six months after the head of the Catholic Church halted the practice because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Wednesday events will be held in a closed courtyard of the Vatican’s Apostolic Palace, where a maximum of 500 seats will be placed, rather than in St Peter’s Square, a Vatican spokesman told AFP.

Serial Killer Sunday Shodipe Murdered Another Victim After Escape

Sunday Shodipe, a 19-year-old arrested in Oyo State for his involvement in multiple killings in the Akinyele Local Government Area of the state, carried out another killing after he escaped from police custody.

Shodipe confessed the killing while being paraded by the Oyo State Police Command on Wednesday.

He stated that he used a machete to inflict injuries on the victim’s head.

He said, ” I inflicted machete cut on her head.”

Chinese pharmaceutical company, Fosun Pharma, on Tuesday, donated anti-malaria drugs to Kenya’s Health Ministry to boost the war against the tropical disease.

Malaria is the leading cause of death among pregnant women and children below five years in the country.
