A Pro-Democracy and Human Rights group, Concerned Nigerians, have condemned the Federal government’s proposed plan to construct a 27.3 Kilometre perimeter fence round University of Maiduguri at an exorbitant cost of ₦64Bn.

The group in a press statement made available to journalists said the budgeted amount of money for a 27.3 Kilometer perimeter fence round the University of Maiduguri is over-bloated, exorbitant and overtly outrageous.

Lagos Govt Closes Isolation Centres As COVID-19 Cases Reduce

The Lagos State Government has announced the closure of the Eti-Osa Isolation Center in the state.

The state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced this during the 17th update on the management of coronavirus in the state.

According to the governor, “Some of the isolation centers now have less than 20 percent of occupancy.”

He also stated that the Agidingbi Isolation Centre would also be closed and patients relocated to a large capacity center – Indo-Centre in the Anthony area, which would soon be inaugurated.

Pentagon Awards Glaxo $342m Contract For COVID Vaccines

The Pentagon on Thursday announced a $342 million contract has been awarded to British pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline to deliver “mass quantities of COVID-19 vaccines” to US troops.

It said GSK was the only company to make a bid for the contract, which will consist of supporting “military locations and personnel throughout the continental US and outside the continental US.”

The work will be carried out in North Carolina “with an estimated completion date of Feb. 28, 2021,” the Pentagon said.

The Trump administration has been weighing whether to direct China-based ByteDance Ltd. to divest its stake in TikTok’s U.S. operations, according to several people familiar with the issue.

The U.S. has been investigating potential national security risks due to the Chinese company’s control of the app.
