Governor Bello Matawalle has presented gold bars and an assortment of precious stones, products of Zamfara to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The presentation was done on Monday night at the State House, Abuja.

Zamfara State has the highest gold deposits in the country.

In addition, the state is also known for eight other minerals which are in commercial quantity.

These are are asbestos, columbite, chronite, iron ore, manganese, marble, lithium and tantalite.

The illegal mining of the minerals has been linked to the wave of killings and banditry in the state.

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Tuesday declared the end of a 25-month outbreak of measles that claimed the lives of more than 7,000 children aged under five.

The outbreak was countered by vaccination on a massive scale, in which millions of children and infants were immunised.

“For the past month, we are able to say that this epidemic has been eliminated from across our territory,” Health Minister Eteni Longondo told a press conference.

Two persons were reported dead and 16 others feared trapped on Tuesday after a residential building collapsed in Western India, the Police said.

Gunmen have reportedly abducted an unconfirmed number of students from a school in Kaduna State.

The incident took place on Monday at Prince Academy in Samba-Kasaya, a village around Buruku area in Chikun Local Government Area of the state.

FG Places $3,500 Fine On Airlines Who Disobey COVID Protocols

The Federal Government on Monday said airlines would be fined $3,500 per passenger for airlifting passengers without negative COVID-19 test results as it prepared to open international flights.

The Coordinator, Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Dr Sani Aliyu, said this at the daily briefing of the PTF on COVID-19 in Abuja, NAN reports.
