Doctors In Kenyan Capital End Strike Over Pay Delays

Doctors employed by Kenya’s Nairobi County government resumed work on Thursday following a six-day strike over delayed salaries and a lack of protective equipment when handling patients who may have COVID-19, a union official said.

Thuranira Kaugiria, Nairobi County secretary-general of the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union, said in a WhatsApp message the doctors had returned to work after signing an agreement with county officials on Wednesday.

In the agreement, the government promised to pay doctors on the fifth day of every month, failing to which the doctors were free to stop work without notice.

Libya’s government in Tripoli on Thursday warned it would use force against militia gunmen who broke up peaceful protests by firing at crowds the day before.

Demonstrations began on Sunday in Tripoli, seat of the UN-recognised Government of National Accord (GNA), against poor public services and living conditions.

While police have monitored the protests, gunmen on Wednesday attacked a peaceful demonstration by “firing live ammunition indiscriminately,” said Fathi Bashagha, the GNA interior minister.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice has identified the policeman who brutally shot 29 year-old Jacob Blake in Kenosha. He is Rusten Sheskey.

Covid-19: Kwara Discharges Five Patients, Confirms New Cases

The Kwara State government, on Wednesday, discharged five Covid-19 patients, just as four new cases were confirmed.

This was announced in an update released by the State Covid-19 technical committee in Ilorin.

It said the number of confirmed cases has risen to 940, while active cases stands at 170.

Though the death toll remains 25, the total number of discharged patients is now 745.

The update put the total number of tests done so far at 4978, with 3877 returned as negative, while 161 tests are being awaited.
