United Nations Rejects US Bid To Extend Iran Arms Embargo

The United Nations Security Council on Friday rejected a proposal by the United States that sought indefinite extension of an arms embargo on Iran.

Amb. Dian Djani, Permanent Representative of Indonesia to the UN and President of the council for August, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the council’s meeting on the issue.

Djani said China and Russia, two veto power holders in the 15-member council, voted against the US-sponsored resolution, while 11 countries, including the United Kingdom, France and Germany, abstained.

Adamawa Police Alleges Illegal Use Of Uniform, Constitutes Taskforce

The Police Command in Adamawa State has complained of illegal use of its uniform.

The command said vigilantes, civil groups and other quasi security outfits were using its uniform and this would not be condoned.

“These groups impersonate our personnel through the use of our uniforms, accoutrement and logos, giving the police a bad image,” the command said.

The command which stated its position in a press release signed by its Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, said to guard against the practice, the command has established a taskforce to identify offenders and prosecute them.

The Bauchi State government on Friday said it has uncovered massive irregularities in the list of candidates who are preparing for this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
