A jilted man has axed his estranged wife to death and then hung himself in a bizarre manner in Zimbabwe.

The jilted man from Gweru was said to have hung himself after fatally axing his estranged wife once on the neck following a dispute over suspected infidelity.

iHarare reports that Patience Matura, 22 received a love text message on her cell phone, which angered her estranged husband leading to a misunderstanding that turned violent.

The suspended Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu has written the Judicial Commission of Inquiry investigating him, raising several issues against the panel.

Magu raised eight issues among which is the tribunal’s consistent private sittings without the media.

The suspended EFCC boss raised the issues in a letter dated August 11 written by his lawyer, Wahab Shittu and addressed to the Chairman of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry, Justice Isa Ayo Salami.

The management of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, has announced that Professor Theophilus Omololu Soyombo of the Faculty of Social Sciences has been appointed as the acting the Vice-Chancellor of the University.

This is coming after the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olawatoyin Ogundipe, was sacked by the governing council of the institution during a meeting which was presided over by its Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Dr. Wale Babalakin on Wednesday.

Sexagenarian To Be Stoned To Death For Rape In Kano

An Upper Shari’a Court sitting in Kano on Wednesday, sentenced a 60-year-old man, Mati Abdu, to death by stoning for raping a 12-year-old girl.

Abdu was convicted on a count charge of rape contrary to Section 126 of Kano State Shari’a Penal Code 2000.

The Trial Judge, Ibrahim Sarki-Yola, said the accused person pleaded guilty to charge after the case was adjourned for the fourth time without changing his plea.

Sarki-Yola said the Court was convinced by the accused person’s admission of the charge against him and found him guilty.
