COVID-19: Arsenal Fires 55 Staff Officials

English FA Cup champions Arsenal announced today that they are sacking 55 staff members, blaming the job cuts on the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Revenue from broadcasters, matchday and commercial activities have all been hit severely and these impacts will continue into at least the forthcoming 2020/21 season,” the club said in a statement.

The move however has received knocks from the fans.

Another Trump Appointee Stephen Akard Quits

U.S. State Department’s Acting Inspector General Stephen Akard is leaving his post and returning to the private sector, a spokesperson for the agency said on Wednesday.

The resignation has come less than three months after his predecessor was abruptly fired by President Donald Trump.

A State Department spokesman said Akard’s deputy Diana Shaw would become the new acting inspector general.

Akard’s predecessor, Steve Linick, who had joined the State Department in 2013, was ousted May 15.

The Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA, has slammed an indefinite suspension on a final year student of the institution who hacked into the website of an online news publication, the Premium Times.

According to the institution, the student, Afolabi Emmanuel of the Department of Food Science and Technology was suspended on Wednesday.

In a statement signed by the university’s Deputy Director, Corporate Communications, Adegbenro Adebanjo, the act by the student constituted misconduct and misuse of University IT infrastructure.

Lagos State Government has revoked the 2018 Land Use Charge (LUC). It was implemented by former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

Commissioner for Finance, Rabiu Olowo, made the announcement on Wednesday.

He said the government reverted to pre-2018 land use charges.
