The FBI arrested on Thursday Ghislaine Maxwell, the former girlfriend and longtime associate of the late disgraced financier and paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Maxwell, 58, was arrested in Bradford, New Hampshire, where she had been laying low since December, the FBI said.

She was arrested on U.S. charges of luring underage girls so that Epstein could sexually abuse them.

U.S. Posts New World Record COVID-19 Cases In Single Day

The U.S. posted another single day record smashing 57,236 COVID-19 cases on Thursday, as infections rose in 37 states.

The new record was the latest proof that the coronavirus pandemic, once thought to be waning, was again spreading rapidly in the world’s biggest economy.

On Wednesday, the U.S. had posted 51,097 cases.

There are fears that it can post single day 100,000 cases.

The U.S. now has 2,837,189 cases of the virus, with the record death toll of 131,485.

FG To Further Research Madagascar Herbal As COVID-19 Death Toll Rises

The Nigerian government says the Madagascar herbal remedy will be subjected to further research despite being proven to only be a cure for malaria.

The government says this would be done when the grant for the research is approved.

This was part of submissions by the Minister of Health, Dr.Osagie Ehanire at the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 press event concerning the purported herbal cure.

“Further research on its efficacy would be conducted when the grant for the research is approved.”

This is as Nigeria recorded 626 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday.

Littered Morgues: Group Flays Wike’s COVID-19 Burial Policy

A coalition of Civil Society Organisations, the COVID-19 Situation Room, has decried the state of morgues in Rivers State which they say is littered with corpses.

The group expressed concern that the new burial guidelines instituted by the State Government to check the spread of the pandemic is overstretching the morgues.

The Rivers State Coronavirus intervention and impact monitoring group issued the update in Port Harcourt.

350 Elephants Die Mysteriously In Botswana

Hundreds of elephants have mysteriously dropped dead in Botswana in what is being described as a ‘conservation disaster’.

More than 350 elephants have died from unknown causes, with aerial photos showing their carcasses scattered across the Okavango Delta and other northern parts of the country.

The first unusual deaths were reported in May when 169 elephants died in a short period at the Okavango Delta, a marshy and lush wildlife habitat.

That number had almost doubled by mid June, with 70 per cent of the deaths occurring around waterholes, according to local sources.
