Two towering figures of the American civil rights movement died Friday, a major loss for a nation still grappling with protests and demands for racial equality decades later.

John Robert Lewis died at age 80 after a battle with cancer. Rev. Cordy Tindell “C.T.” Vivian died at age 95 of natural causes. Both men were the epitome of “good trouble” — Lewis’ favorite saying and approach to confronting injustices guided by his belief in nonviolence.

Two Held As NAF Begins Investigation Into Flying Officer’s Death

The Nigerian Air Force says it has started an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of its Flying Officer Tolulope Arotile, who died on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, in a road accident.

In an interview, the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, said two suspects are being held over Arotile’s death.

NAF had earlier explained that Arotile was “inadvertently hit by the reversing vehicle of an excited former Air Force secondary school classmate while trying to greet her.”

A former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Joy Nunieh, has revealed how she was asked to approve ₦10billion as Christmas bonus.

She made the revelation on Friday in her testimony before the House of Representatives committee on NDDC probe.

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the naming of the Railway Complex in Agbor, Delta State after former President, Goodluck Jonathan.

Buhari’s Special Assistant on New Media, Tolu Ogunlesi, made the announcement on Saturday.

Ogunlesi, on Twitter, quoted Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, as saying the facility will be known as the Goodluck Jonathan Railway Station & Complex.

Police Demand Wike Surrender Joi Nunieh

The Nigerian Police still want to interrogate Dr.Joi Nunieh, the former managing director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

On Thursday, policemen from Abuja made a botched bid to arrest her from her home in Port Harcourt.

She was rescued by Governor Nyesom Wike.

According to reports, the police have now formally asked Wike to allow them take her away.

The Nation reported that Rivers Police Commissioner, Joseph Mukan, made the demand during a meeting with Wike in Port Harcourt on Friday.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos, on Friday struck out four of the 10 count charges filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC against Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, President, Paul Usoro, SAN and two others over alleged ₦1.4 billion fraud.

Others mentioned in the charged include, Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Finance, Nsikan Nkan; Accountant-General of the state, Mfon Udomah; state Attorney-General, Uwemedimo Nwoko, and Margaret Ukpe.
