The international NGO community in Nigeria has demanded for the release of the remains of the five aid workers executed by terrorists in Borno State to their families and calls for the unconditional and immediate release of other two aid workers whose whereabouts remain unknown.

A statement by Moshood Raimi, Senior Information Management Officer, Nigeria INGO Forum and made available to DAILY POST on Friday, said, since the beginning of 2019, eight aid workers were executed following their abduction, while the whereabouts of two others remain unknown.

Chadian army officers and intelligence officials were sentenced on Friday to up to 10 years in prison for drug trafficking, the state prosecutor and their lawyer told AFP.

In January, a vehicle carrying 246 cartons of the opiate painkiller Tramadol, with an estimated value of 12.3 billion CFA francs (18.8 million euros, $21 million), was seized on its way to neighbouring Libya, a judicial source said.

The United States Navy has awarded a Nigerian officer, Lieutenant Victor Agunbiade, its medal of commendation for his meritorious service.

The US Navy said Agunbiade effectively managed its largest cash disbursing office handling $45 million (N17 billion) in cash transaction.

The Naira on Friday weakened marginally against the dollar at both the parallel market in Lagos and the investor’s window.

The Nigerian currency traded at ₦472.5 to the dollar at the parallel market, down by 0.5 points from ₦472 exchanged on Thursday.

The Pound Sterling and the Euro closed at ₦582 and ₦530, respectively.

The Presidency on Friday denied reports that it has dissolved the Interim Management Committee of the Niger Delta Development Commission.

There have been recent calls by the National Assembly for the dissolution of the committee and the return of the NDDC to the Presidency for direct supervision.

For instance, the Senate ad hoc committee set up to unravel the alleged financial recklessness of the IMC to the tune of tens of billions of naira on Thursday lamented the extra-budgetary spending of the IMC, urging President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately dissolve the committee.
