It seemed like an excellent deal for an Italian company struggling because of the coronavirus.

The Milan-based web design company in June applied for a government-backed loan worth about $290,000 to help get through the pandemic-related economic downturn. The funds were released, but there was a significant problem: The company had not lost revenue; it had never generated any business.

The firm was apparently a money-laundering front for the Greco clan, a branch of the powerful ‘Ndrangheta Mafia based in Calabria that controls most of the cocaine trafficking in Europe, according to authorities.

Another three-storey building has collapsed at Ebute Metta area of Lagos Mainland, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

This is coming in just two weeks in which a three-storey building collapsed on Lagos Island, Lagos, killing three people and nine others rescued.

The incident occurred at 95, Abeokuta Street by Cemetry, Ebute Metta, around 1:10pm on Friday, with people reportedly trapped in the debris.

Mr Paul Ibe, the senior special adviser to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2019 general election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has said that Godswill Akpabio, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, lied when he denied saying that the National Assembly received 60 percent of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, contracts.

While answering questions at the ongoing probe of the NDDC by the House of Representatives committee, Akpabio had linked contracts awarded by the Commission to members of the National Assembly, saying that the majority of the contracts awarded were handled by the lawmakers.

Ibrahim Magu, the suspended acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday opened his defence before the Presidential Panel probing allegations of corruption against him with 34-page documents submitted to the panel.

The fraud case against Olalekan Ponle, also known as Woodberry, a close associate of Ramon Abbas (Hushpuppi), has been dismissed.

The 29-year-old, who was facing charges bordering on wire fraud conspiracy at a United States District Court in Illinois, was arrested alongside Hushpuppi in the United Arab Emirates on June 10.

Third Mainland Bridge Partial Closure Begins Today

The partial closure of the 11.8km Third Mainland Bridge begins from the evening today, with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu declaring that his government is ready to manage its effect.
