Qatar announced the completion of its third stadium for the 2022 World Cup, state media reported late Thursday, as the emirate prepared to mark three years of a regional feud.

Education City stadium had been due to host the semi-final of the Club World Cup on December 18, but its opening was postponed because of delays to certification.

“The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy and the Qatar Foundation announce the completion of the preparations for the third FIFA World Cup 2022 stadium, located in Education City,” the state-run Qatar News Agency reported.

France on Friday denied that Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido had been given refuge at its mission in Caracas, after Venezuela’s foreign minister claimed he was hiding at the embassy.

“Mr Juan Guaido is not at the French residency in Caracas. We have confirmed this to the Venezuelan authorities several times,” ministry spokeswoman Agnes von der Muhll said.

France is among more than 50 countries that recognise Guaido as the interim president of Venezuela, after the country’s opposition-controlled parliament branded President Nicolas Maduro a usurper over his 2018 re-election in a poll widely derided as rigged.

The authors of published studies on use of the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19 have retracted their findings.

This was announced Thursday by the Lancet and New England Journal of Medicine.

The retractions come after reports questioned the validity of data used in the studies.

Researchers and third-party reviewers could not verify data supplied to them for the study.

Published May 1, the New England study found COVID-19 patients with cardiovascular disease were at greater risk of death if treated with the drug.

Chairman, Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Mr Boss Mustapha, on Thursday said that Nigeria has received test kits and a PCR Machine from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
