George Floyd: New York Imposes Curfew, Deploys More Police Officers

Gov. Andrew Cuomo, on Monday imposed a curfew in New York City as protesters against the death of George Floyd prepare for another night of protests on the streets.

Cuomo revealed this while speaking in a live radio programme.

The killing of Floyd by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has seen protests, violent demonstrations, mostly of the black race over police brutality, with several US states activating National Guard troops.

Resident doctors at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, Ogun State have reacted to a statement credited to Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, wherein he said he was disappointed in the doctors for “irresponsibly demanding wage increase from him.”

In a viral video,  Gov Abiodun said he has done everything to satisfy the doctors, yet they chose to embark on strike at a time they should be saving lives, saying money should not be their priority this time.

Abiodun also said they were politically sponsored, adding that he would not be subject to anybody’s blackmail.

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos  south west Nigeria will today commence the hearing of application filed by team of lawyers on behalf of former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu to secure his release.

Facebook said Monday Singapore’s use of an online misinformation law is “severe” and risks stifling free speech, after the company was again forced to block a page in the city-state.
