C’River Govt Sends 5 Trucks Laden With Almajiris To North

Cross River State Government has ordered the returned of five truck loaded with almajiris including other passengers back to the northern part of the country.

A border patrol team, comprising Peace Corp members, civilian vigilantes, COVID-19 border taskforce, and youth groups etc had intercepted the trucks on Wednesday night at the Garkem border town in Bekwara LGA of the state near Benue State.

The team leader, Signor Omang Idiege, who is Commissioner for Youths, said it was as a result of intensive search and blockade of interstate vehicular travels, led his team to intercept the trucks.

World Bank Grants $400m Aid To Afghanistan

The World Bank has approved financial aid worth $400 million to help Afghanistan’s economy and mitigate risks compounded by the COVID-19 crisis.

Mr. Henry Kerali, World Bank’s Country Director for Afghanistan, said in a statement on Thursday that the assistance would help the government “to manage revenue shortfalls arising from coronavirus impacts.”

Afghanistan has a shaky economy after nearly four decades of war and crisis.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the country’s current national budget includes 449 billion Afghanis (around 5.9 billion dollars). About 60 percent of the budget is financed by international donors.
