Trump Hints On Ending Trade Relationship With China

U.S President Donald Trump on Thursday said he does not want to talk to his Chinese counterpart, while hinting on ending the world’s largest trading relationship, amid rising tensions about the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking in an interview with Fox Business Network, the US President said he has a “very good relationship” with Chinese President Xi Jinping, but “right now, he doesn’t want to speak to him.”

Namibian Govt Bans Purchase Of New Cars For Officials

The Namibian government has banned government officials from buying new cars till 2025, a decision taken to curtail the effect of the outbreak of Coronavirus in the country.

Namibian President, Hage G .Geingob, who made the announcement on Twitter on Thursday also directed a curb on monthly fuel consumption by public office holders.

He said the decision would save the country 200 million Namibian dollars (US$10.7 million), which will be directed “to urgent priorities, specifically at a time when the country is dealing with the health and economic implications of COVID-19″.

A new study from researchers at Trinity College Dublin said that vitamin D deficiency may be linked to higher death rates from COVID-19.

And that boosting the body with the common vitamin may be a game changer in the fight against the virus.

Published in the Irish Medical Journal, the report analyzed vitamin D levels of older people in countries heavily affected by the coronavirus.

The World Trade Organisation (WTO) Director-General, Roberto Azevedo, has announced that he would step down from his position.

He would leave on August 31 after seven years at the helm.

Azevedo’s decision came more than a year before his second term as WTO head was due to end.

The United States, in December, blocked WTO’s ability to settle disputes by blocking the appointment of judges to its appellate body.

German automaker, Volkswagen has revealed plans to resume production at its plant in the U.S. state of Tennessee.

The company, in a statement Wednesday, said it has implemented more than 90 new health and safety measures ahead of a gradual ramp-up of operations starting on May 17.

Some 3,800 Volkswagen employees at the plant have not worked since it suspended operations on March 21 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

French Pharmaceutical Giant To Create Vaccine For All

French pharmaceutical giant Sanofi plans to make any vaccine it develops against the novel coronavirus available to all.

“The vaccine against COVID-19 will be made available to the public at large, regardless of nationality,” the company’s director general Paul Hudson said, according to a tweet from Sanofi France on Wednesday evening.

The message came after Hudson, in an interview with Bloomberg, said the U.S. would have priority because they were the first in line to fund the company’s research.

“The US government has the right to the largest pre-order because it’s invested in taking the risk,” Hudson told Bloomberg.

New York state is probing around 102 cases of children diagnosed with a rare inflammatory syndrome, known as Kawasaki disease and possibly related to COVID-19.

A 5-year-old in New York City, a 7-year-old in Westchester County and a teenager in Suffolk County have died of the syndrome, which displays various symptoms including persistent fever, severe abdominal pain, bloodshot eyes and skin rash.

Governor Andrew Cuomo disclosed this at his daily briefing on Wednesday.

Seventy-one percent of the cases have resulted in ICU admission, 19 percent have resulted in intubation and 43 percent remain hospitalized, according to Cuomo.
