Almajiris: North Exports Food To South East, Not COVID-19 – Ohanaeze

The apex Igbo socio-political organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has dismissed the allegations that the influx of almajiris into the Southeast was an attempt to infect inhabitants of the region with COVID-19.

Speaking with reporters, Ohanaeze’s Secretary-General, Barr. Uche Okwukwu said such claims should be dismissed because Northerners are responsible for the food supplies in the Southeast.

Following the outbreak of COVID-19 in Nigeria, several almajiris have been caught attempting to illegally enter the Southeast.

The UK Government has said hundreds more British travellers are set to return home from Nigeria on three charter flights.

A statement by the British High Commission, confirmed that more than thousands have already returned to the UK on flights in April and May – from Lagos and Abuja.

It gave details of the new flights as: Friday 29 May: Lagos – London; Monday 1 June: Lagos – London, Saturday 6 June: Abuja – London.

Our Properties Will Be Seized By Banks Over Loans – Ex-Militants

Some Ex-militant leaders in the Niger Delta region have called on the Interim Management Committee of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), to pay contractors to avoid threats of home and other property forfeiture to banks over unpaid loans.

The group also lamented untold hardship following certified completion of work without pay.

The Ex-militant leaders, under the aegis of the Leadership, Peace and Cultural Development Initiative (LPCDI), called on the NDDC to help stop the psychological pains being inflicted on contractors and commence the payment of contractors who have completed their projects under their contractual obligations, especially ”emergency contracts”.

The apex Igbo sociopolitical organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has reacted to claims by Northern elder, Tanko Yakassai who had described President Muhammadu Buhari as an incompetent leader.

Ohanaeze’s Secretary General, Barr. Uche Okwukwu insisted that Buhari has done well since assuming power in 2015.

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has ordered the arrest of anyone found selling tickets or collecting any form of tax from those exempted from paying tax in the state.

The governor noted that some agents of the state still extort residents despite directives to desist.

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has prevented over 100 vehicles from entering the state boundary area with Ebonyi for violating the inter-state travel ban.

The Senior Special Adviser on Media to Enugu State Government, Mr. Louis Amoke, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Enugu.

Amoke disclosed that the governor turned back the offending vehicles on Saturday night at the Amechi Idodo/Nkalagu land boundary area of the two states.

Russia President Vladimir Putin on Saturday approved new method of voting in future elections.

By the new law, Russians will be able to vote electronically or by mail in the future.
