UK Minister Douglas Ross Quits Over Dominic Cummings Row

A UK minister, Douglas Ross has resigned as public anger deepens over PM Boris Johnson’s top aide Dominic Cummings’ breaching of the coronavirus lockdown.

Ross, the Minister for Scotland and a Tory whip, announced Tuesday on Twitter he is quitting because he was unconvinced by Mr Cummings’ defence of the journey to Durham.

South Africa’s rand raced to its highest in more than eight weeks against the U.S. dollar on Tuesday, as optimism about a global recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic boosted riskier assets, with investors looking past Sino-U.S. trade tensions.

Officials Begin Inquiry Into Australian Bush Fire

An inquiry on Australian bush fires has heard that an estimated 445 people died and thousands injured, with health costs exceeding 2 billion dollars (1.3 billion US dollars).

Reports showed that between August 2019 and March 2020, bush fires burnt more than 12 million hectares of land.

It also destroyed more than 3,000 homes and killed people across six of the country’s eight states and territories.

Air quality due to smoke from the fire was ”hazardous” in major Australian cities including Sydney and the capital Canberra.

Kaduna-Kano Rail Will Never Be Completed – Ganduje’s Aide

Salihu Tanko Yakasai, a media aide to Governor Ganduje of Kano state, said the Kaduna-Kano rail project will never be completed.

Yakasai stated this on Twitter.

Minister of Transportation, Amaechi, in 2019 had said that the Federal Government had secured a loan for the project.

He said the rail line would run to Lagos via Ibadan, conveying about 30 million tons of cargoes.

He also stated that the project will kick-start “soon”
