American Idol To Encore Charity Song ‘We Are The World’

“We Are The World”, the celebrity-packed 1985 charity singer, is getting an encore this weekend, courtesy of the stars of “American Idol”.

“Idol” judges Lionel Richie, who co-wrote the song with late Michael Jackson, Katy Perry and country singer Luke Bryan will perform it on Sunday alongside former stars and winners of the television talent show, broadcaster ABC said on Friday night.

ABC said it will be the first television performance in 35 years of the song.

At least 30 Indian migrant workers were killed Saturday in road accidents as they tried to return to their home villages during a nationwide coronavirus lockdown, officials said.

The accidents, in central and northern India, were the latest involving some of the millions of labourers left stranded and jobless by the seven-week shutdown.

Donald Trump’s move to fire a government watchdog reportedly investigating Secretary of State Mike Pompeo amounted to a potentially illegal act of retribution, according to senior Democrats leading an angry backlash Saturday.

Trump notified House of Representatives speaker Nancy Pelosi late Friday that he planned to dismiss State Department Inspector General Steve Linick.

It was his third abrupt dismissal of an official tasked with monitoring governmental wrongdoing since April.

Facebook Acquires Animated Graphics, GIPHY

Social media and tech giant, Facebook said Friday it had acquired the animated graphics startup GIPHY and would integrate the company in its Instagram visual social network.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the news site Axios said the California-based tech giant was paying $400 million.

GIPHY is a platform and search engine for “stickers” and other products using the graphics interchange format or GIFs.

A group of Saudi researchers in Riyadh  has developed a diagnostic test to detect coronavirus infection, state news agency SPA reported.

The researchers work at the Research Center of King Faisal Specialist Hospital (KFSH).

The test  developed is based on analysing the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) of the COVID-19 virus.

It has been approved by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (FDA).

The National Industrial Court (NIC) has ruled that a contempt of court charge be filed against the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Gabriel Abayomi Olonisakin, over the alleged refusal to comply with valid orders.

Kaduna State Ministry of Health on Saturday confirmed that a four-month-old child was among the 20 new COVID-19 cases recorded in the state on Friday.

A statement issued by the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Amina Mohammed-Baloni, said that the father of the infected child had a travel history to Kano.

“The infant, who had been brought to the hospital for respiratory issues, was tested in accordance with the updated guidelines which advise that persons presenting with such symptoms be tested,” she added.
