Russian Mercenaries Are Fighting In Libya, UN Diplomats

Mercenaries from the Wagner Group, a Russian paramilitary organization seen as being close to Vladimir Putin, are fighting in Libya, UN diplomats said Wednesday, citing an experts’ report on the country’s arms embargo.

It was the first time the UN has confirmed claims first made in US media that the group is supporting military strongman Khalifa Haftar. Moscow has denied being responsible for deploying the group.

The report also revealed that Haftar was being supported by Syrian fighters.

190,000 People Could Die Of Coronavirus In Africa – WHO

Eighty-three thousand to 190 000 people in Africa could die of COVID-19 and 29 to 44 million could get infected in the first year of the pandemic if containment measures fail, a new study by the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Africa finds.

₦40bn Fraud: Akpabio Under Pressure, Denies Allegations

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio has denied allegation of ₦40 billion fraud in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), an agency supervised by his ministry.

Reacting in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja on Friday, by Anietie Ekong, Chief Press Secretary to the Minister, he insisted that there was no corruption in the agency.

We Are Set For Immediate Retrial Of Orji Kalu – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Friday said it was ready for immediate retrial of former Governor of Abia State, Orji Kalu.

The Supreme Court had earlier in the day nullified the trial of Kalu and ordered a retrial.

But the EFCC, in a statement  said its attention had been drawn to the judgment of the Supreme Court nullifying the trial of Kalu , his firm, Slok Nigeria Limited and Jones Udeogu, a former Director of Finance and Account of Abia State Government and ordering their fresh trial at the lower court.

Military Plane Crashes, Kills All Onboard

An airplane crashed on Thursday near the Croatian coastal city of Zadar, killing all the two members of the Croatian Air Force, the Ministry of Defence said.

The deceased was a cadet and a flight instructor who was flying a small Zlin aircraft.

U.S. President Donald Trump and the Japanese Prime Minister have agreed to cooperate closely on measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

NFF Places Mothers Of Late Ex-Internationals On Stipend

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), on Thursday, announced ₦30,000 monthly stipend each for mothers of its two ex-internationals, Rashidi Yekini and Samuel Okwaraji.

The NFF, through its verified twitter handle, said it was acting in furtherance to the placement of both matriarchs on monthly ₦10,000 by the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development.
