Facebook Surges On User Growth In Pandemic

Facebook on Wednesday reported a sharp jump in usage as the global pandemic unfolded, in a quarterly update that sparked a rally in shares of the social network despite its warning of turbulence in the coming months.

Shares climbed some 10 percent after Facebook reported a profit of $4.9 billion on revenue that grew 17 percent to $17.4 billion during the first three months of this year.

Chief executive Mark Zuckerberg vowed to keep pouring money into social networking “needs” revealed by the crisis despite uncertainty about the impact of the health emergency on the economy and its business.

Access Bank PLC is planning to cut salaries of its workers to prevent job losses as lockdown occasioned by coronavirus has drastically affected its income.

Sources in the bank told Bloomberg that the reductions were expected to start from May unless business conditions improve.

The sources who said they were briefed on the matter during a conference call, said some management staff would get as much as a 40% decrease in their salaries.

Lagos Set To Hit 1,000 Coronavirus Infections

Lagos is set to hit 1,000 Coronavirus infections at the end of Friday (today) if it ramps up at least 24 new cases.

On Thursday, Lagos recorded 45 new cases, which represents a drop from the 87 highest cases recorded on Wednesday.

It currently has 976 confirmed coronavirus infections, according to the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC.

Coronavirus has wiped out a whole family in the United States, killing father, mother and their son.

The invisible enemy killed the Mayorga family, a Nicaraguan family in Miami Florida over three weekends.

Though the son was the first to be diagnosed with the virus in mid-March, it was the father, Mario Mayorga that was first taken away, according to a grieving relative Marcela Lastre.
