Coronavirus: Tokyo Records High Rise In New Cases

Tokyo on Sunday recorded 143 new cases of the coronavirus, raising the number of people, who have tested positive for it, to over 1,000.

The new figure marks another record after health authorities recorded 118 new cases a day earlier, the first time that the daily caseload has risen above 100.

Local media reported that the rising caseload means Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is under increasing pressure to declare a state of emergency to slow the spread of the fast-moving virus.

US President, Donald Trump, on Saturday declared that he will not wear a face mask.

This is despite new medical guidance advising people in the country to do so.

Trump said that it doesn’t look nice for him to be greeting “presidents, prime ministers, dictators, kings, queens” in the Oval Office while wearing one.

Chadian Troops Destroy Boko Haram Bases In Niger

Chadian troops have continued their massive bombardment of Boko Haram enclaves.

The major onslaught commenced on Sunday March 29, 2020.

Troops have been recording success to the extent that the sect leader, Abubakar Shekau, released an audio asking his fleeing fighters to remain at battlefield.

On Saturday, soldiers destroyed five bases of Boko Haram hideouts and recovered hundreds of assorted weapons.

The bases, located in Niger and Nigeria, were targeted in the ongoing “Operation Boma’s Wrath”.

In reaction, Chad’s presidency vowed to sustain the raid against the insurgents wherever they were hiding.

Abia Government has started production of certified quality standard protective medical kits and masks to carter for the needs of Nigerians and bridge the scarcity of imported ones.

Mr Sam Hart, the Director-General, Abia State Marketing and Quality Management Agency, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Aba on Saturday.

Four inmates died during an attempted jailbreak at the Kaduna prison on March 31, the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) said.

Dubai imposed a two-week lockdown Saturday night and Saudi Arabia sealed off parts of the Red Sea city of Jeddah as Gulf states tightened measures in big cities to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

Reports over the weekend claimed that UITH concealed information regarding the death of a patient who is a returnee from the United Kingdom(UK).

But, a statement signed by UITH Chairman Medical Advisory Committee Dr. A. O. Saka said the deceased, a 57-year-old man was labeled suspected ‘coronavirus case’.
