Why African-Americans Bear The Brunt Of US Virus Tragedy

An assistant professor has offered an insight into why Black Americans bear the brunt of the coronavirus pandemic in the U.S.

Tina Sacks, of the School of Social Welfare at University of California Berkley gave the insight in an article on Friday.

The U.S.leads the world in coronavirus cases and deaths.

Confirmed cases have surpassed 533,000. Deaths are over 20,000.

Sacks has now shed some light on why most of the victims are African-Americans.

She blamed underlying structural inequality, especially in urban areas.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been discharged from hospital after overcoming a deadly battle with coronavirus.

Newspapers in UK said Johnson was discharged from St Thomas Hospital today.

He was admitted on Sunday, on the same day Queen Elizabeth made a broadcast on the pandemic.

‘The PM has been discharged from hospital to continue his recovery, at Chequers”, said a 10 Downing Street spokesman.

‘On the advice of his medical team, the PM will not be immediately returning to work.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has announced an outbreak of yellow fever in South Sudan.

Yellow fever is an acute viral haemorrhagic disease transmitted by infected mosquitoes.

According to the agency, two cases were identified in Kajo-keji, a region bordering Uganda.

An outbreak of the viral disease was detected in that area of Uganda early this year.

Two teenagers have reportedly drowned while swimming at a community beach in Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has directed the suspension of some Development Centre Coordinators and immediate dissolution of Sub-Committee on Religious Worshipers.

Umahi gave the directive in a statement by Mr Uchenna Orji, Commissioner for Information and State Orientation in Abakaliki on Sunday.

He said that the action was with exception of its Chairman, Rev. Fr Abraham Nwali, who was in church at the time of the Sunday service.
