The Federal Government said funds donated by the private sector towards fighting Coronavirus are meant for the development of healthcare infrastructure and cannot be used to provide palliatives during a lockdown.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, gave the explanation on Tuesday when he featured on a Radio Nigeria programme, “Politics Nationwide”, monitored by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Mohammed was responding to comments from Nigerians requesting that part of the billions of naira being donated by public-spirited individuals and private institutions should be shared to the people to cushion the effect of the extended lockdown.…

China Approves Two Coronavirus Vaccines For Human Trials

China has approved early-stage human tests for two experimental coronavirus vaccines.

State news agency Xinhua reported the breakthrough on Tuesday.

The vaccines are being developed by Sinovac Biotech and by the Wuhan Institute of Biological Products, an affiliate of state-owned China National Pharmaceutical Group.

China’s National Health Commission has confirmed the trials will go ahead.

Work on the trials on the global pandemic commenced in March 2020.

Bayelsa: Chevron, Host Disagree Over Cause Of Dead Fishes

Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), are in war of words with members of its host communities in Bayelsa State, following dead fishes littering the Atlantic coastline near the oil firm’s operations.

Residents along Koluama, Ekeni, Ezetu, Fishtown, Foropa, and Sangana axis of the Atlantic coastline in Bayelsa, hosts to CNL had reported the sudden sighting of dead fishes in the shoreline, since the middle of March.

Former United States President Barack Obama has made an endorsement declaration where he rebuffed his successor Donald Trump and endorsed Former Vice President Joe Biden for President.

FG Clears Air On Maltreatment Of Nigerians In China

The Federal Government on Tuesday blamed poor communication between the Chinese authorities and African consulates in Guangzhou, China, for the maltreatment of Nigerians in China.

Speaking during a press briefing in Abuja in the company of the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr Zhou Pingjian, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, said lack of communication made a lot of Nigerians and Africans misunderstand what was happening in China.

According to him, if there was effective communication, African consulates would have assisted the Chinese authorities in the action it was taking.

Nigeria To Experience Worse Recession In 31 Years – IMF

The International Monetary Fund, IMF has projected that Nigeria’s economy will face the worst recession in 30 years.

IMF stated further that Nigeria’s economy will recede by 3% in 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic, which has disrupted global supply chains.

It noted that this would be the worst recession in 30 years for the West African giant after a negative economic growth of 1.51% in 2016.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu stated this in reaction to a recent revelation by Nigeria’s Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government did not invite the Chinese doctors who came into the country last Wednesday to help with the fight against Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Hunger Virus: Lockdown Is Not Sustainable, Mr. President!

The conundrum: Do we sustain the lockdown to contain coronavirus and risk the upsurge of insecurity and citizens’ unrest or do we lift the restrictions and find other means of controlling the spread of COVID-19?

For a country like Nigeria with complexities and deplorable socio-economic indices, imposing restrictions on movement for an extended period of time — asphyxiating the economy and pauperising small businesses – is Siberian.

89 New Coronavirus In China Cases From Russian Border

China reported 89 new coronavirus cases on April 13, down from 108 the previous day, the health authority said on Tuesday.

Of the total, 86 were imported, down from 98 a day earlier, the National Health Commission said.

China’s state broadcaster had reported earlier that 79 of the day’s imported cases were in the northeast province of Heilongjiang, which shares a border with Russia.

The number of total confirmed cases in China now stands at 82,249. Its death toll from the pandemic stands at 3,341, with no new deaths on April 13.

Passover: Israel Announces 36-Hour Curfew

Caretaker Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu late Monday announced another 36-hour curfew, preventing Israelis from going out shopping in large numbers and celebrating festive dinners with extended family during the last two days of the one-week Jewish Passover holiday.

“During the curfew from Tuesday 5 pm (1500 GMT) until Thursday 5 am (0300 GMT), it is compulsory to stay within the limits of your cities and communities,” Netanyahu told citizens in a televised news conference.

The Biafra Nations Youth League, BNYL, has made mockery of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s extension of the Coronavirus lockdown.

In a statement signed by its National Deputy Leader, and Head of Biafra Broadcasting Service, Ebuta Takon Akor on Tuesday, the group confirmed that its members were still crossing to Cameroon to collaborate with Southern Cameroon separatists despite the lockdown.
