India has reported its highest jump in COVID-19 deaths, 24-hrs after the government began easing lockdown restrictions.

A total of 73 people died between Tuesday morning and Wednesday afternoon, taking the India-wide toll to 1,007.

Suspected Sea Pirates terrorizing waterways within Kalabari route have attacked a passenger boat with passengers on board.

Some of the victims including the driver of the boat who identified himself as Sokpabobia Sokari narrated their ordeal to newsmen explaining that they were attacked within Namasebi waterways in Bille community, Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State while returning from Port Harcourt.

The UK now has Europe’s second-highest official death toll from the novel coronavirus pandemic, according to new figures on Wednesday.

The figures captured fatalities in all settings, including in nursing homes.

Some 26,097 people died across the United Kingdom after testing positive for COVID-19 as of April 28 at 1600 GMT, Public Health England (PHE) said.
