COVID-19: FMC Gives Update On Imo’s Index Case

The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri, in Imo said the first index case of COVID-19 is currently receiving treatment at its isolation center.

The hospital spokesperson, Mrs. Jacinta Achonu made the confirmation in Owerri on Sunday while briefing newsmen on the first report of Coronavirus case in the state.

“Yes, I can confirm to you that a COVID-19 patient of about 45 years was brought to the isolation center of FMC, Owerri about 2:30 pm and a team of medical experts are managing the situation,” she said.

She said the hospital management was unaware of the identity of the patient, …

Italy To Reopen Businesses Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

Italy’s Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has announced that some businesses, especially in the manufacturing and construction sector, will resume from May 4.

Conte gave a detailed outline of plans to reopen the economy, in a newspaper interview published on Sunday, ahead of the government’s roadmap out of lockdown.

He promised that the plans would be released no later than early this week.

“We are working in these hours to allow the reopening of a good part of businesses from manufacturing to construction for May 4,’’ Conte told Italian daily La Repubblica.

Trump Blames Lamestream Media For COVID-19 Briefing Woes

U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted Saturday that his daily coronavirus briefings were not worth his time.

The remark appeared to confirm reports that he was considering dropping the briefing, out of frustration with questions about his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He tweeted two days after sparking a furore by suggesting patients might be injected with disinfectant to kill an infection.

“What is the purpose of having White House News Conferences when the Lamestream Media asks nothing but hostile questions, & then refuses to report the truth or facts accurately,” Trump wrote.

Nigerians React To Mysterious Deaths 600 Persons In Kano

Nigerians have expressed concerns over the suspicious deaths of renowned persons and other 600 people in Kano State.

Reports on Saturday had it that several prominent residents dropped dead in the state within the last 24 hours.

DAILY POST reported that while some had Coronavirus symptoms, what killed others is still unknown.

There are speculations of meningitis but residents and government are yet to explain the real cause.

Maltreatment: China Writes Diplomatic Letter To Nigeria

The People’s Republic of China has written the Federal Government of Nigeria, stating the current situation of Nigerian citizens in the country concerning the Coronavirus pandemic.

There have been reports of inhumane treatment against the citizens of Nigeria and other African countries in Guangzhou and other major cities in the Asian country.

In the letter from the Foreign Affairs Office of the Guangzhou Municipal People’s Government, circulating on social media, the Chinese government suggested that the Nigerians may not have been totally submitting to the rules and regulations of the cities in the fight against Coronavirus.

Deutsche Bank Denies U.S. Senators Info On Trump Accounts

Deutsche Bank has rebuffed a request by prominent U.S. senators to provide information about its recent business dealings with U.S. President Donald Trump and his family.

Four Democratic senators, led by Elizabeth Warren, earlier this month demanded details from Deutsche Bank Chief Executive Christian Sewing about the bank’s interaction this year with Trump and his family’s companies. (here)

Obaseki Appoints New Chief Of Staff

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state has appointed Osaze Ethan Uzamere as his Chief of Staff.

He replaces the former Chief of Staff, Taiwo Akerele, who resigned from Obaseki’s kitchen cabinet on Friday.

The 38-year-old investment banker is son of Senator Ehigie Uzamere, who represented Edo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly between 2007 and 2011.

A herbalist, Lajuwon Ogunleye, and his wife Adetutu Apalaya have been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command on charges of conspiring and killing their 7-year-old son, Pelumi Apalaya.

The couple were arrested alongside one Fatai Sefiu, following their neighbours’ suspicion of the little boy being used for ritual, as he reportedly slumped and died without being sick.

An Ecuadorean woman in coronavirus-ravaged Guayaquil city has learned that her sister was alive, weeks after cremating a misidentified body.

Health authorities at Abel Gilbert Ponton Hospital had given her another body after proclaiming her sibling dead.

Alba Maruri, 74, was admitted to an intensive care unit on March 27 suffering from a high fever and difficulty breathing.

Medical personnel told her family later same day that she had died, Maruri’s sister Aura said by telephone.

Lagos Records Sharp Drop In Coronavirus Infections

Respite has come the way of Lagos, as the state recorded sharp drop in Coronavirus infections on Saturday, with 33 new cases.

In the figures released by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, Nigeria recorded 87 new cases, with Lagos taking the lion share of 33.

On Friday, the state ramps up its highest coronavirus infection figures since the pandemic started, which stood at 80.

Between April 20 and 25, Lagos has consistently experienced increase in infections, ramping up 291 cases.
