Domestic Abuse Against Palestinian Women Soars

Banging pots and pans and waving homemade banners, scores of Palestinians have expressed their solidarity with women enduring various forms of domestic violence during a lockdown imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The initiative on Monday, which saw both women and men stand at their windows and balconies across the occupied Palestinian territories and historic Palestine, was aimed at shedding light on the plight of women who are locked down with their abusers.

Russia’s Coronavirus Cases Surpass 50,000

Russia’s confirmed cases of coronavirus surpassed 50,000 on Tuesday,  according to the official daily statistics.

The country has recorded more than 52,700 identified cases of the novel coronavirus, an increase of more than 1,800 percent since April 1.

According to the Federal Monitoring Service, more than 450 people in Russia have died from complications connected with the virus, with about 10 percent of the death toll occurring over the past day.

81% Of African Countries Received Medical Supplies – WHO

The World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Office for Africa in Brazzaville, Congo, says 81 per cent of countries in Africa have received medical supplies to support health workers in the fight against COVID-19.

The first UN Solidarity Flight which is part of a larger effort to ship lifesaving medical supplies to 95 countries departed Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to various countries on April 14.

A middle-aged-man whose identity is yet to be ascertained was electrocuted in Abakaliki on Tuesday, according to an eye-witness.

The eye witness on Tuesday in Abakaliki said that the incident occurred along the Abakaliki/Enugu highway about 12:00 noon.

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that his administration was looking at the possibility of stopping incoming Saudi Arabian crude oil shipments to support the battered domestic drilling industry.

The Saudis are shipping 600,000 barrels of crude to the U.S.

“Well, I’ll look at it,” Trump told reporters at a daily news conference after he was asked about requests by some Republican lawmakers to block the shipments under his executive authority.
