Niger LGs Workers Kick Against 20% Deduction Of Salaries

Local government workers in Niger State have refused to forfeit 20 per cent of their March 2020 salaries as decided by the state Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to combat the Coronavirus pandemic.

This is coming after a joint meeting of staff of the Medical and Health Workers Union, the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employers (NULGE), the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Niger state and Non Academic Staff Union (NASU) Niger state.

The workers in a letter through their unions, and dated March 31, 2020 and signed by Comrade Kabiru Yakubu, the secretary of the joint union,

Coronavirus: Doctor Commits Suicide

Bernard Gonzalez, the club doctor of Stade de Reims FC, has committed suicide.

French outlet Le Parisien reports that Gonzalez took his own life on Sunday afternoon shortly after being told he had contracted Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Gonzalez, 60, is said to have been in quarantine with his wife, who also had the disease.

Reacting to the development, Stade de Reims’ President, Jean-Pierre Caillot, in a statement, described Gonzalez as a great professional of the sport.

Buhari Orders Withdrawal Of $150m From NSIA Account

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered that $150 million be withdrawn from the National Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA).

The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, revealed this while speaking with journalists in Abuja.

According to her, the withdrawal would be made from the NSIA stabilization fund, to augment disbursements to the three tiers of government by the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC).

A record 25 Nigerian doctors on Saturday night went into isolation at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).

This followed the death of a patient that tested positive for coronavirus.

He initially tested negative along with two other patients.

The other two patients are now being treated at an isolation ward at the hospital, Chief Medical Director of UBTH, Prof. Darlington Obaseki.
