Network Failure Mars 2020 UTME, Destroy Students’ Hopes

Power and network failures reportedly marred commencement of the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on Saturday in some centres in Lagos and Abuja.

According to reports, some candidates in a few Computer-Based Test centres in Lagos State, scheduled for 7am, were unable to take the exam until 1pm, and when they were called in to commence the exam, their computers reportedly went off after writing just two or three papers.

The newspaper learnt that the Virtual Private Network, which transmits the questions from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, failed in a handful of those centres, leading to anxiety …

A mighty pipeline explosion shook several houses along Abule Ado area of Ojo, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria on Sunday morning.

Thick smokes and balls of fire envelop the atmosphere as panic struck residents scampered to safety.

The explosion reverberated and shook houses several miles away.

Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA’s spokesman, Nosa Okunbor said the explosion might be that of a pipeline explosion.

A Canadian woman and her Italian partner kidnapped in Burkina Faso in 2018 have been found in good health in the northwest of Mali after fleeing their captors and were set to be repatriated, diplomatic and UN sources said on Saturday.
