US Begins First Human Trial Of Coronavirus Vaccine

The first human trial to evaluate a candidate vaccine against the new coronavirus has begun in Seattle, US health officials said Monday, raising hopes in the global fight against the disease.

But it may be another year to 18 months before it becomes available, once it has passed more trial phases to prove it works and is safe.

The vaccine is called mRNA-1273 and was developed by US National Institutes of Health (NIH) scientists and collaborators at biotechnology company Moderna, which is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Russian Embassy in China disclosed the information, stating that Chinese authorities concluded the directive on Sunday as part of new preventive measures to curb the spread of the viral disease.

Death toll in Sunday’s explosion at Abule Ado area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria has reached 20, with three dead bodies evacuated on Monday.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, had said on Sunday that it had recovered 17 dead bodies from the Abule Ado explosion.

Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari on Monday met behind closed door with governors under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abuja.

The Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello on Sunday lost his mother, Hajia Hawa Bello.

The governor’s mother died in Abuja on Sunday after a brief illness.

It was further learnt that her body is expected to be buried today in Okene, Kogi State according to the Muslim rite.

Late Hajia Hawa Bello survived with children, grand children and great grand children, among whom is the governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
