North Korea Fires Two ‘Ballistic Missiles’ Into Sea

North Korea fired what appeared to be two short-range ballistic missiles off its east coast on Saturday, the latest in a series of such launches by Pyongyang as the world struggles with the coronavirus pandemic.

The South Korean military condemned the launches as “extremely inappropriate given the difficult situation the world is experiencing due to COVID-19… We urge them to stop immediately.”

North Korea has not reported any cases of the coronavirus, which has turned into a major crisis with more than 11,000 deaths and over 250,000 infections worldwide.

Iran Frees French Researcher In Vital Prisoner Swap

President Emmanuel Macron announced Saturday that Iran has freed a French researcher imprisoned in the Islamic republic after France released an Iranian threatened with extradition to the US.

Macron “is happy to announce the release of Roland Marchal, imprisoned in Iran since June 2019” but he “urges the Iranian authorities to immediately free” fellow researcher Fariba Adelkhah, his office said.

France has for months demanded that Iran release Adelkhah and her partner Marchal, who were detained last year accused of plotting against national security. Their trial began in early March.

Illinois has announced a stay-at-home order in response to the coronavirus pandemic, the third U.S. state to do so, after California and New York.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker announced the measure on Friday.

The Central Bank of Nigeria may have devalued the Naira by as much as 15 per cent as it seeks a single exchange rate instead of the often criticised multiple rates.

An indication that the Naira has been devalued came when news filtered that the CBN sold the U.S. dollar to Jaiz Bank at 360 naira on the official currency market, instead of N306 where it was previously pegged. The CBN also sold dollar at the Importer and Exporter window at N380.

The World Health Organisation, WHO has sent a warning to world youths that the raging coronavirus does not respect them as they are also vulnerable.

Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus sounded the warning in an online news conference from Geneva.
